This is the most fundamental of my business travel series. This one is about driving, as you’re going to be doing a lot of it.

Driving is simple, in theory, jump in your car and go. In practice though, there are a few things you need to know.

I write based on my experience in the UK, and in Europe to a lesser extent. I’ve had a reasonable amount of experience driving in places like the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and many others. It’s nothing compared to my UK experience but the points are still valid.

Your Car

You may be given a company car, in which case it’ll either be your predecessor’s, or a choice from a limited list of options. You will probably be taxed on it but this will vary from country to country.

If there’s no company car, you’ll use your own. If you already have one, use it but make sure it’s well-maintained.
